Foundation Focused on Increasing Subscriptions
The Iowa Rugby Foundation is focusing on increasing its membership through its subscription service. Early in 2025 the foundation launched its website, iowarugbyfoundation.org, with the intent of adding to membership as well as keeping members and the Iowa rugby community informed on foundation news and events. Signing up for membership is a simple process of choosing a level of support you are comfortable with, from $19.66/month (in honor of the year of club founding) up to $500. Currently we have 15 clubhouse members who contribute a total of $742 per month.
The landscape of college rugby has changed dramatically since most of our playing days. Many major college rugby programs are now considered varsity sports, with scholarship players, extensive coaching staffs and first-class facilities. Even many club sports teams like Indiana University and Ohio State University have multi-million dollar endowments and yearly budgets in excess of $100k. The goal of our foundation is to establish an income stream through monthly subscriptions to help de-fray the costs of operating a high-level college rugby program. Donations cover expenses like equipment, travel, uniforms, recruiting and tournament fees. The foundation also has a long-term goal of building an endowment that will be self-sustaining and allow us to remunerate coaching staff.
Currently there are 15 monthly donors (clubhouse members). The goal is to get to 100 subscribers by the end of 2025. That would provide the foundation with a monthly cash-flow in excess of $4,500.
